In June, she overcame the formidable Chinese players to win the Indonesian Open. At the London Olympics, she is a strong medal prospect. The great Indian shuttler, Saina Nehwal talks about fashion, Sachin & the love of her life – Badminton!

In four tournaments this year – Malaysia Open, Korea Open, All England Championship and Uber Cup – you failed to get past the Chinese players. Have the chinks in your armour exposed?

In Malayasian open I lost to Yihan in 3 sets. I was having advantage, but seeing that she is world no 1, I had a little pressure, so went down, but I repented a lot. In Korea I lost to Yani jhao the left handed player, I was not up to the mark and in All England I lost to Juveri, in second set we were 20-20 and 2 crucial calls kept me away from the 3 set, but I had a upper hand over her in 2nd set. So you can say I was 33 % over 67 % of Chinese. Obviously they won so you can say that they were better.

You have admitted that you were under pressure in the final of just concluded Thailand Open. The Chinese were absent. What was the cause of stress then, and how did you overcome it to win the final?

I was against the local girl, 3 times Junior world champion and very optimistic with local support, so I lost first set, but I just kept my calm and focussed on my game, and see in second and 3rd set she could get 15 and 10 points.

Even Sachin Tendulkar faces flak for not scoring a 100. How do you take criticism? What keeps you motivated in hard times? Is the London Dream taking its toll on you?

I was worried about myself that I had a bad time with my game due to ankle injury last year. Let the experts express their views about me, I feel happy to listen to criticism and I try to get good advice from the criticism.

16-year-old PV Sindhu says she can be next Saina Nehwal. Does the competition from the younger lot bother you? Why ?
