Sunil Chettri to go club hunting after July

The former Kansas City striker, who has been released by Mohun Bagan, told IANS Tuesday that he was not worried being a free agent and hoped to get a club soon.”Hopefully I will start looking for a club after July. I have just taken some time off,” Chettri said on the sidelines of the launch of a soccer talent hunt programme of Airtel.Asked if he was finding it tough to get a club, Chettri said: “Not exactly. Just waiting for the best offer. Hopefully, I shall get a good offer soon.”Chettri, who appeared for trials at Coventry, Queens Park Rangers and Glasgow Rangers without much success, said he was immediately into thinking of trying his luck overseas.Chettri, however, said that he was happy that the talent hunt programme like the Airtel Rising Stars would help the young players to be better when they go for trials in European clubs. Through the scouting programme, 12 under-16 kids, selected from India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will get to train with Manchester United Soccer School.”When I went to Coventry for trials I was completely lost. Even though I am the best player in India, there was huge world of difference. I am a bit jealous today. I wish there was something like this when I was growing up. Children these days in India are getting such great opportunities,” he said.Chettri said youngsters who will get to train at Manchester United through Airtel Rising Stars will have a better exposure.”They will have a feel of playing at the top level and the exposure will teach them what it needs to be a professional footballer at the highest level,” he said.
