Yuki Bhambri cracks the top 200 on ATP chart

BANGALORE: As India’s top tennis players battled it out in the Olympic tennis competition, 20-year-old, Yuki Bhambri, unlucky not to have played his first Olympic Games, made his moves on the ATP ranking chart, climbing to a career best 196, making him the highest ranked Indian on the Tour.

Last week in Astana, Kazakhstan in a Challenger tournament Yuki claimed 20 points for making the quarterfinals, where he lost in straight sets to Slovakia’s Karol Beck.This week the free-striking Yuki is competing in a $75,000 Challenger tournament in Beijing, China. In the first round, the Indian Davis Cupper takes on Harri Heliovaara of Finland. Should Yuki come through his opening encounter he is likely to run into the second-seeded Grega Zemlja of Slovakia.Yuki will take a short break from tournament play following the Beijing event, travelling to the United States for practice and preparation before he plays the US Open qualifying draw next month.
