Dyson's Headphones Do Not Only Cancel Noise, But Also Purify Air For Listeners

Noise cancelling headphones that also purify air are almost here. Yep, you read that right. The company behind some of the most well-known and highly priced vacuum cleaners, Dyson, just announced a set of noise-cancelling headphones that also work as air-purifying cans.

Meet the odd-looking yet revolutionary Dyson Zone

Called the “Dyson Zone,” the headphones are very post-dystopia – with large earcups complemented by a large mouthpiece that covers the user’s face – from ear to ear. Unfortunately, Dyson hasn’t announced a release data or a potential price point for these future-ready headphones.

In a press release, Dyson’s Chief Engineer, Jake Dyson said that “air pollution is a global problem… [be it] in our homes, at school, at work, and as we travel.” Dyson also explained how the headphones are different from face masks. “Unlike face masks, it delivers a plume of fresh air without touching your face, using high-performance filters and two miniaturized air pumps. After six years in development, we’re excited to deliver pure air and pure audio, anywhere.”

According to Dyson, the Zone headphones protect people from two kinds of pollution – air pollution and noise pollution. With help from electrostatic filters that are able to remove 99% of all particulate matter (as small as 0.1 microns), the Dyson Zone also has activated carbon filters that absorb city fumes.

The company also claims that these headphones have advanced active and passive noise cancellation that effectively deal with noise pollution. The front visor that covers a user’s nose and mouth may be removed if a user is looking just for audio. Hinges in the visor also allow listeners to swing it down while having a conversation or drinking something.

But not all is well in the world of Dyson headphones. For instance, a Chinese YouTuber, Naomi Wu, published a Twitter thread highlighting concerns of using such headphones, with public health at the centre. Check it out below.
