After growing dependent on gaming apps on her smartphone, the unidentified secondary school girl from Henan province in central China stole from her mother.

The girl’s mother, who goes by Wang, was unaware of the theft until a teacher confided in her that she suspected the daughter might be addicted to online pay-to-play games after observing how much time she spent on her phone while at school.

According to Elephant News, Wang only had 0.5 yuan (US$0.07) in her account when she checked her bank balance.
Wang is shown poring over bank statements with every transaction her daughter made paying for the online games in a viral video that was published with the news story.

The child revealed to her father that she had spent 120,000 yuan ($17,000) on the games, 210,000 yuan on in-game purchases, and 100,000 yuan on games for at least ten of her classmates when he questioned her about her spending.

“In spite of my reluctance, I paid when they requested me to for their games,” the girl said.

She claimed to know little about money

The young lady claimed to know little about money and its origins, so when she came across a debit card at home, she just connected it to her smartphone.
Additionally, she recalled her mother giving her the card’s password in case she required cash when they were away.

She claimed that despite being terrified of her peers’ irrational requests for games, she was afraid to ask her professors for assistance.
The girl added, “My parents will learn about it and become upset.”

Wang claimed that before the instructor contacted her, she was unaware of the whole situation because her daughter had deleted all of the transaction data from her smartphone

According to a 2022 McGill University analysis of smartphone addiction, the majority of addicts are in China, followed by Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. The study involved 34,000 people between the ages of 15 and 35 from 24 nations, including the United States and Japan.
