Rio de Janeiro: Brazilian footballer Neymar’s father has denied reports of his son living beyond his means.

Forbes magazine this week reported the 20-year-old was “spending his way to bankruptcy” due to “irresponsible” spending habits, reports Xinhua.The report claimed that in the past two years Neymar had purchased four properties inlcuding a beachside mansion, a Porsche Panamera Turbo sports car and an eight-million-dollar luxury yacht.Earlier this month, the Brazil international striker chartered his own private jet from Stockholm to the southern Brazilian city of Florianopolis to play a match for his club Santos.”I guarantee that Neymar’s life is well looked after,” Neymar da Silva Santos said Tuesday.”There is no way this (bankruptcy) is going to occur.”The article claimed Neymar’s reported annual salary of US $18 million was “way above reality” saying the figure was more likely around eight million dollars per year.Apart from his contract with Santos, Neymar has lucrative deals with at least 10 private sponsors including global brands like Nike, Volkswagen, Panasonic, Red Bull and Santander.IANS
